The National Clean Development Mechanism Authority (CDM) has cleared another ten projects recently with the result that the total number of Host Country Approved CDM projects have crossed the hundred mark, reaching 107. These projects include 62 (sixty two) from the field of Renewables including biomass based cogeneration projects, 28 (twenty eight) in the field of energy efficiency, 8 (eight) in Industrial Processes, 6 (six) in Fuel switching and 3 (three) in the field of Municipal Solid Wastes. All the projects approved have the potential to generate 132 million Certified Emission Reduction (CERs) units and facilitate an investment of Rs 7816 crores in the country. With the present going rate per CER of more than US$ 20, the additional revenue on account of the CERs will exceed US$ 2.6 billion. Accordingly, the companies can improve their bottom lines considerably by selling the certificates in the international market while at the same time doing their bit to prevent climate change.
