India and China have agreed to enhance cooperation in the film sector. The delegations from two sides met today and discussed the areas of cooperation. Indian delegation was led by Secretary, Ministry of Information & Broadcasting, Shri S. K. Arora whereas Madame Zhao Shi, Vice Minister State Administration of Radio, Film & Television (SARFT) led the visiting delegation. In his remarks, Shri Arora said that India and China have huge potential for film co-production. The newer technologies in the areas of film making and dubbing can help the films from each other countries reach to the populace. The liberalization of Indian policy for foreign investment in this sector and exports have substantially raised the scope for co-production, he added. Shri Arora said that Indian film industry which has been growing @ 18% per annum in the last couple of years offers much scope to the Chinese film industry. India, because of its geography and varied climate, has beautiful locations for shooting which the Chinese film makers can utilize. In film animation also, India is fast emerging as a leader and the potential can be used to the benefit of both countries, he said. Shri Arora said that a Film Cooperation Commission had been set up which would see culmination of the signing of film co-production agreement between the two nations. He invited enhanced Chinese participation in the forthcoming International Film Festival of India (IFFI) at Goa, and show-casing their cinema and related aspects. The occasion would provide opportunity for interaction among film production from both sides.

Agreeing to the Indian suggestion of promoting mutual cooperation in film, the Chinese Vice Minister SARFT Madame Zhao Shi said that China has also embarked on a policy of internationalization of their film industry, which would give a boost to the Indo-China relations in the film sector. She suggested that four film festivals are held annually in China and India can participate in all in a still bigger way. She also proposed the exchange of film professionals.
