Destiny of India lies in the State of Uttar Pradesh and if U.P. succeeds in the health sector, India will succeed and every one looks on India. This was stated by the Union Health and Family Welfare Minister, Dr. Anbumani Ramadoss on the occasion of launching of National Rural Health Mission (NRHM) in U.P. at the Scientific Convention Centre, K.G.M.U., Lucknow today. The Minister said the main objective of NRHM is to reduce the infant mortality rate and the maternal mortality rate, create universal access to public health services with special emphasis on women and child health, prevent communicable and non-communicable diseases, improve access to integrated, comprehensive primary health care, achieve population stabilization and promote healthy lifestyle.
Dr.Ramadoss further said that NRHM wants to provide effective healthcare to rural population throughout the country with special focus on 18 States, which have weak public health indices. He regretted that in some states there was decline in health expenditure and said that the Government of India will be increasing public health spending from 0.9% to 2-3% of GDP. Referring to the ASHA, a health activist in the community, he said that it will create awareness on health and its social determinants and will mobilise the community towards local health planning.
Speaking on the occasion, the Minister of State for Health & Family Welfare Smt. Panabaka Lakshmi said that healthy society is very necessary for a developed country. It is the primary duty of the Government to make available health services to the people. The Government has raised 30 per cent Budget allocation for the health sector in the current Financial Year.
Presiding over the function, U.P. Chief Minister, Shri Mulayam Singh Yadav said that his Government has already given priority to the health services in the State. He said that we have to remove poverty to achieve the prosperity.
