The 11th National Level Meeting of the Home Secretaries of India and Myanmar would be held at Yangon from 13th to 17th October 2005. At this meeting, issues relating to security, drug trafficking and border management would be discussed. Various infrastructure projects in Myanmar over which the two countries have agreed to cooperate for development of border areas would also be reviewed.

The Indian delegation for this meeting would be led by Shri V.K. Duggal, Union Home Secretary and Myanmar delegation would be led by Brig. General Phone Swe, Deputy Minister of Home Affairs, Government of Myanmar.

The National Level Meetings at Home Secretary level held between the two countries in the past have helped in strengthening the existing cooperation between the two countries on various issues of mutual concern including security and trafficking in drugs and psychotropic substances. The proposed meeting has been convened to give impetus to this process. Union Home Secretary would raise, inter-alia, India’s concern on presence of Indian insurgents groups along the India-Myanmar border and would seek further cooperation of Government of Myanmar for taking action against insurgents, arms smugglers and drug traffickers.
