The Finance Committee of Sports Authority of India (SAI) met recently under the chairmanship of Shri. Prithviraj Chavan, Minister of State in the Prime Ministers Office. A Five Year Action Plan for development of sports infrastructure in field units of SAI like Regional Centre/Sub-Centres etc. as part of preparation of Indian sportspersons for Commonwealth Games 2010 was approved in principle.
The proposals for construction of a 100 bedded hostel for elite women sportspersons at Southern Centre, Bangalore, completion of remaining work of partly constructed girls hostel at SAI Training Centre, Kollam and repair of Silver Jubilee Hostel for men at NS NIS, Patiala were also cleared. The Committee approved major repair and renovation of Medical Centre and Administrative Block at NS NIS, Patiala, completion of remaining work at SAI Training Centre, Medikeri and renovation of Wooden Flooring of Indoor Training Centre at SAI Eastern Centre, Kolkata.
A large number of proposals related to upgradation/ creation of sports infrastructure and other facilities were approved. These include replacement of Synthetic Hockey Surface at Netaji Subhash National Institute of Sports, Patiala and conversion of the existing grass hockey surface into synthetic surface at High Altitude Training Camp, Shilaroo. It also approved replacement of substandard hockey surface at Southern Centre, Bangalore at no extra cost to SAI.
The Committee also approved the proposal of laying of Synthetic Athletic Track at LNCPE, Thiruvananthapuram and replacement of synthetic Athletic Track at SAI Western Centre, Gandhinagar.
With a view to strengthen DOPE Centre, it has been decided to procure Liquid Chromatograph & Mass Spectrometer for the Dope Control Centre. The Government has also approved the import of 12 bore preferred brand ammunition to meet the long-standing demand of Indian shooters. .
