eliminate human failure in coal mine accidents: dr. dasari narayana rao

Minister of State for Coal & Mines, Dr Dasari Narayana Rao has stressed the need to eliminate coal mine accidents due to human failure. Chairing the 27th meeting of the Standing Committee on Safety in Coal Mines, Dr Rao today said, safety is a matter of attitude and human failure causing accidents reflect on the sensitivity of management towards safety of coal mine workers.

The Minister referred to the recent Central Sounda Colliery accident in which 14 valuable lives were lost. He drew the attention of the Committee to come out with valuable suggestions to eliminate any human failure in future and to check inundation and roof fall by utilizing our experience and advanced technologies.

The Minister stressed on full utilization of safety related budget and creating an atmosphere of mutual trust and confidence between the management and workers. He said achieving success in mine safety demanded a team effort from all concerned.

The Committee discussed in detail the issues relating to recruitment of security personnel, training people and safety budget utilization. The Committee suggested arming the officers with modern equipment and conveyance to effectively monitor the safety related works in the mines. The members were of the view that the new mining plans should include comprehensive safety needs.

The Coal Secretary Sri P.C. Parakh, the Chairman, Coal India Limited, Shri Shashi Kumar and senior officials of the Ministry and the coal companies attended the meeting.
