Director Ministry of Environment & Forest and Deputy Commissioner (Customs) sentenced in CBI Cases

The Special Judge for CBI case, Hyderabad has convicted Shri S.Bhowmic, Director, Ministry of Environment & Forest (Govt. of India), New Delhi and Dr. M.N.Raja Reddy, President, Non-Conventional Energy & Rural Development Society, Chittor Distt. for cheating the Govt. of India to the tune of Rs. 43.80 lakh. Both the accused were sentenced to undergo three years Rigorous Imprisonment & to pay a fine of Rs. 20,000/- each u/s 120-B r/w 420, 408, 420, 471 IPC and 13(2) r/w 13(1) (d) of PC Act, 1988.

The CBI investigation revealed that the accused in pursuance of criminal conspiracy, misutilised grants-in-aid to the tune of Rs. 43.80 lakh sanctioned to five fictitious societies floated by Dr. Raja Reddy for the purpose of raising energy plantations in Cuddapah and Chittor Districts. The trial court found both the accused guilty for the offences and convicted them.

In another case, the Special Judge, Mumbai convicted Ms. Rekha Roy, Dy. Commissioner, Customs for demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs. 500/- from the complainant for clearing her import papers. The court sentenced the accused officer to undergo two years Rigorous Imprisonment with a fine of Rs. 20,000/-.
