The Department of Heavy Industry, Government of India, will be organizing a Conference of CEOs of Public Sector Enterprises on September 14, 2005, in New Delhi.
The Conference is an occasion for the Chief Executives of the PSEs to meet and share their views on the various challenges that these Public Sector Enterprises face today. Besides, the CEOs will get to meet academicians and industry experts who will be a part of the discussion process. The Inaugural Session of the Conference will be followed by two Sessions of three hours each devoted to Restructuring of Public Sector Enterprises and Competitiveness and Corporate Governance in Public Sector Enterprises. Some of the key issues to be discussed in the Conference would be as follows:
Competitiveness of Public Sector Enterprises Restructuring of Public Sector Enterprises Corporate Governance Transparency and Accountability E-commerce and E-governance The Conference comes at a time when the revised approach of the new Government towards restructuring of PSEs has been in force for more than a year. It will provide an opportunity for taking stock of the progress achieved and to suggest mid-course corrections, if any, in the approach being followed at present.
Apart from the presentations by CEOs of PSEs, there would be presentations by eminent experts on subjects like the role of PSEs in market economy and by eminent personalities from the private sector on topics such as the various restructuring models tried out within and outside the country. Some initiatives taken by PSEs in utilizing E-governance tools to enhance efficiency would also be presented during the Conference.
