The Union Cabinet today gave its approval for promulgation of the Manipur University Ordinance, 2005.
After promulgation of the Ordinance, the Manipur University Bill, 2005 pending in the Rajya Sabha would be withdrawn on commencement of the next session of Parliament and a fresh Bill in replacement of the ordinance would be introduced.
This would ensure immediate conversion of Manipur University into a Central University resulting in its accelerated development to minimize the imbalance in educational facilities available in the North-Eastern Region.
