bel pays 112% dividend to govt

Premier Defence PSU Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL) paid its highest ever dividend of 112% for the fiscal 2004-05.

BEL Chairman and Managing Director, Mr Y Gopala Rao, presented the dividend cheque of Rs 43,69,65,120 (Rupees forty three crore sixty nine lakh sixty five thousand one hundred and twenty only) to the defence Minister, Mr Pranab Mukherjee, here today. This was the final dividend of 72% payable to the government of India for 2004-05.

The 40% interim dividend of Rs 24,27,58,400 was paid to the Government of India in December 2004. The company has, therefore, paid Rs 67,97.23,520 as the total dividend for 2004-05 to Government of IndiaI.

BEL, established in Bangalore in 1954, has been consistently paying dividend and the percentage of dividend paid has increased significantly over the years. Last year BEL paid a dividend of 100%. BEL reached its highest ever turnover of Rs 3,212 crore during 2004-05 with Profit After Tax (PAT) of Rs 446.3 crore.
