baalu approves national highway improvement worksin tamil nadu

The Union Minister of Shipping, Road Transport and Highways, Thiru T. R. Baalu has approved road improvement works on National Highway sections in the State of Tamil Nadu at a total cost of Rs. 952.92 lakhs

Approval has been granted for providing paved shoulders including reconstruction of culverts at the cost of Rs. 209.66 lakhs to avoid congestion of traffic on NH-208 near Rajapalayam-Virudhunagar. The stretch of highway has a lot of industries. The improvement of road will ensure smooth flow of traffic.

Approval has also been granted for the re-construction of 13 culverts in Theni-Bodi road of NH-220 at the cost of Rs. 134.30 lakhs.

The Minister has also approved protective work in the form of retaining walls on NH 208, near Tenkasi at a cost of Rs. 133.48 lakhs. The stretch of the road has deep valleys on one side. The reach is subjected to heavy rainfall and due to non-availability of protection works, the embankment gets slipped. The construction of retaining walls will improve the condition.

Approval has also been granted for providing pedestrian footpath in selected stretches from km 0/000 to 52/000 near Palani-Dindigul-Coimbatore of NH-209 at an amount of Rs. 475.48 lakhs.
