In pursuance of talks held by the Prime Minister, Dr. Manmohan Singh with All Party Hurriyat Conference on September 5, 2005 wherein he had assured a time bond review of cases to be undertaken, the Joint Screening Committee of State Government met in Srinagar today for review of cases of the persons under detention under Public Safety Act etc. and approved the release of 44 detenus. The committee comprised of Financial Commissioner (Home)(J&K), DG Police J&K, Additional DGP (CID), J&K and Joint Secretary, (Kashmir), Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India. The State Government has accepted the recommendations and orders for release of these persons are being issued accordingly.
The Central Government reiterated its commitment to carry forward the dialogue process and take all possible measures to strengthen the peace initiatives on a sustained basis.
