30 central projects completed during april-july

30 Central Sector Projects each costing Rs.100 crore and above were completed during April-July 2005. These include, 6 Railways, 8 Telecom, 1 Power, 11 Road Transport and Highways and 4 in Petroleum Sector. This is revealed in the Flash Report of the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation for the month of July, after taking stock of the progress of implementation of the major Central Sector Projects.

The completed Railway projects are : Kuppam-Whitefield Doubling (South-Western Railway); Tamluk-Digha (New Line), South-Eastern Railway; Agra Fort-Bandikui, Gauge Conversion (North-Western Railway); Mansi-Saharsa (Gauge Conversion) East-Central Railway; Chennai Beach-Chengalpattu Via Tambaram (Southern Railway) and Harmati-Itanagar/Naharlagun (New Line) (North-Eastern Frontier Railway);

The Tele-Communication projects are : Managed Leased Line Network (BSNL); IP Network with Routers (BSNL); Andhra Pradesh CMTS (BSNL); Expansion of GSM Network (MTNL) Delhi; GSM Project Motorola (MTNL) (Delhi); CMTS-Phase-III (BSNL) (Karnataka); CMTS-Phase-III (BSNL) (Punjab); Punjab CMTS.

The Power Project is the Raipur-Chandrapur 400 KV Transmission Line of Power Grid.

The Road Transport and Highway projects : Bhadrak-Chandikhole ((Golden Quadrilateral) (NH-5); Ganjam-Icchapuram ( Golden Quadrilateral) (NH-5); Srikakulam-Champawati (Golden Quadrilateral) (NH-5); Bridges Section ( Golden Quadrilateral) (NH-5); Kavali-Nellore (Golden Quadrilateral) (NH-5); Shikohabad-Etawah ( Golden Quadrilateral) (NH2); Surat-Atul ( Golden Quadrilateral) (NH-8); Palasa-Srikakulam ( Golden Quadrilateral) (NH-5); Panagarh-Palsit ( Golden Quadrilateral) (NH-2); Jawaharlal Nehru Port (Port Connectivity) (NH-4); Palsit-Dankuni ( Golden Quadrilateral) (NH-2).

In Petroleum, the DHDT & M.S.Q Project, Mathura Refinery (IOC); Sidpur-Sanganer Product Pipe Line (IOC); IOR Gandhar (ONGC);IOR Scheme Neelam (ONGC).

An analysis of these completed projects indicate that, though there has been cost-over-run and time delay in most projects, while in case of the Telecom, the cumulative expenditure on the projects remained lower than the original estimated cost. Even in some Petroleum projects, the cumulative expenditure was lower,but not to the level of the Telecom projects.
