2nd phase of hydrology project to be implemented

Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) today gave its approval for implementation of the “Hydrology Project” (HP-II) at a total cost of Rs.631.83 crore (involving Central sector component of Rs.220.92 crores and State sector component of Rs.304.67 crores) and contingency of Rs.106.24 crores for a period of six years from 2005-06 by Central and State agencies with the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development Loan.

HP-II will improve the quality of the hydrological and water quality data and its interpretation in the Implementing Agencies (IAs) and serve towards preparation of improved state water policies and improved basis for planning and management. It will result in evolving procedure for improved planning and design for water resources schemes.

The project is planned to be implemented over a period of six years from the current financial year till the year 2011. The scheme envisages procurement and installation of equipment for data collection, processing and storage, provision of civil works and other works for development of scientific procedure for planning/management through support of consultants for identified specialized services.
