13 projects report additional delays upto 25 months

2 new power projects taken up for monitoring

The Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation has taken up for monitoring 2 new power projects, while 13 projects have reported additional delays up to 25 months. This is stated in the Flash Report of the Ministry on Central Sector Projects each costing Rs.100 Crore and above for the month August, 2005. The Report contains information on the status of 344 Central Sector Projects, including 44 mega Projects costing Rs.1,000 Crore and above.

Of the thirteen Projects reporting additional delays, six are in power, two in Petroleum, one each in Fertilisers, Telecom, Steel, Civil Aviation and Road Transport. The other 331 Projects are currently progressing as per schedule. The two new power projects taken up for monitoring are, BARH Super Thermal Power Project having three units of 660MW each, costing nearly Rs.8,693 Crore and expected to be completed by December 2009. The Chamera Stage-III costing nearly Rs.120 Crore is expected to be commissioned by August 2010.

Among the delayed, the Koteshwar Hydroelectric Power Project has reported the maximum delay of 25 months followed by Kameng Hydroelectric Project of NEEPCO by 20 months. The third Project with a delay of 12 months is the Development of Visakhapatnam Airport in the Civil Aviation Sector. Another Power Project reporting a delay of 9 months is the Transmission System of TEESTA-V Hydroelectric Project of the Power Grid. The rest of the Projects have reported delays between one to six months.
