Backlogs of top level vacancies in Central Public Sector Enterprises will be cleared very soon. This was stated by the Minister of Heavy Industries and Public Enterprises, Shri Sontosh Mohan Dev while inaugurating the Conference of the CEOs of the Public Sector Enterprises under the Department of Heavy Industries here today. The Government was committed to making the PSEs strong and effective and brought about a radical change in the policy relating to the PSEs, the Minister added. The Government is committed to extending full managerial and commercial autonomy to the Public Sector Enterprises which are able to prove that they are in a position to effectively use the enhanced autonomy to build up competencies to maintain the competitive age. Presently, Navratnas have already been delegated power to incur capital expenditure without any monetary ceiling, to enter into joint ventures or strategic alliances, obtain technology and know-how; raise debt from domestic capital market and for borrowings from International market; structure and implement scheme relating to personnel and human resource management, etc. The Minister said that improving competitiveness of the Public Sector Enterprises was the most important requirement for the PSEs to survive in today’s liberalized and globalised economic environment.

The theme of the day-long deliberations of the CEOs is “Improving Competitiveness of the Public Sector Enterprises”. In his concluding remarks, the Minister observed that a pro-active and a positive response from the Chief Executives of the Public Sector Enterprises would go a long way in fulfilling the aspirations and the vision of the present Government for a bright future of our Nation’s economy and consequently overall welfare of our countrymen.
