The performance of all Infrastructural Sectors, except Power, Coal and Crude Oil Production recorded significant growth during July, compared to the same month in the previous year. However, all sectors, except Cement and Refinery Production missed to achieve their targets set for the month. During the cumulative period April-July, all sectors except Net Telephony, Fertilizers, Crude Oil, Refinery Production and Roads registered noteworthy performance compared to the same period last year. Also, all sectors except Coal, Finished Steel, Railways, Cargo handled at major Ports and Fertilizers have exceeded their targets during the 4 month period. Revealing this, in a Report after a review of the performance of infrastructure sector, the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation also said that while upgradation/construction of roads exceeded the target by 46.3 per cent, Import Cargo Handled, crossed the target by 43.4 per cent during the period April-July-2005.
The Report, while taking note of the significant performance of several sectors achieving/exceeding their targets during April-July, expressed concern that Coal production remained nearly 4 per cent below target, Finished Steel Production 12 per cent less than the target, Revenue Earning Rail Freight Traffic 1.2 per cent, Shipping 0.7 per cent, Fertilizers 9.2 per cent while Civil Aviation was 10 per cent below the target.
Passenger Traffic handled at domestic terminals exceeded the target by 9.5 per cent, Export Cargo Handling 6.2 per cent, Cement Production 5.6 per cent, Power Generation 0.8 per cent and Petroleum, natural gas 4.5 per cent while Crude Oil and Refinery Production both were 0.7 per cent above target, the Report noted.
