The 40th Central Geological Programming Board meeting of Geological Survey of India (GSI), Ministry of Mines will be held here tomorrow to review the geo-scientific and mineral exploration activities in the country in the light of economic reforms and liberalization in the mining sector. It would discuss and approve the programme of GSI for the field season 2005-06 commencing from October, 2005. The annual programme of GSI is formulated by the Board interacting with the State Governments, Planning Commission and private sector industries keeping in view the national priorities. The Mines Secretary, Shri A.K.D. Jadhav will chair the meeting.
GSI is the nodal organization of the Government for implementing various prioritized exploratory programmes in the country. It is fully geared up to enhance the national inventory of mineral resources. GSI also provides specific inputs in geo-environmental and disaster management. It is also the nodal agency for landslide hazard mitigation programme of the Ministry of Home Affairs.
