The 10th National Level Meeting between India and Myanmar was held here today. The Indian delegation was led by Sh. Dhirendra Singh, Union Home Secretary and the Myanmar delegation was led by Brig. Gen. Phone Swe, Deputy Minister of Home Affairs, Government of Myanmar.

During the meeting, issues relating to security, drug trafficking, border trade, border management and proposed infrastructure projects in Myanmar were discussed. Both sides agreed to further strengthen cooperation in tackling the activities of insurgents, arms smugglers, drug traffickers and other hostile elements along the India-Myanmar border. As regards infrastructure projects, both sides expressed satisfaction that the Detailed Project Reports of two components of Kaladan River Project and Field Surveys of Rhi Tiddim and Rhi Falem roads in Myanmar have been completed by the Indian agencies. It was noted that Pre-Feasibility study of the Tamanthi Hydel Project in Myanmar is to be undertaken by the National Hydroelectric Power Corporation (NHPC) soon. Both sides agreed that, when completed, these Infrastructure Projects would help in economic development of the border areas and would also promote greater movement and interaction of people across the border. Myanmar Government has created facilities for the tourists at the site of Rhi Lake across Mizoram border. This was appreciated by the Indian side.

Both sides expressed the view that deliberations held at this meeting would further strengthen the friendship between the two countries. Talks will conclude on 7th October 2004.
