His Excellency Mr. Tang Jiaxuan, State Councillor of the People’s Republic of China, will be visiting India from October 18-20, 2004 at the invitation of the Government of India. State Councillor Tang was earlier the Foreign Minister of China from 1998 to 2003. His current visit is part of the continued high-level exchanges between India and China.

State Councillor Tang will hold official talks with the External Affairs Minister, Shri K. Natwar Singh on October 19, 2004. The two leaders will review recent developments in India-China relations and exchange views on the further improvement of bilateral relations. They will also discuss regional, international and multilateral issues of mutual interest. During his visit, State Councillor Tang will call on the Prime Minister. He is meeting the National Security Advisor, Shri J.N. Dixit and is also scheduled to call on the Leader of the Opposition in Lok Sabha, Shri L.K. Advani.

State Councillor Tang will be leading a high-level delegation including Vice Foreign Minister Mr. Wu Dawei, Deputy Secretary General of the State Council Mr. Chen Jinyu, Vice Minister for Culture Mme Meng Xiaosi, and President of the Exim Bank of China Mr. Yang Zilin.
