Minister for Urban Employment and Poverty Alleviation, Kumari Selja today launched the Tree Plantation Drive in Dwarka (Delhi) as part of the Habitat Week Celebrations. In a function organized by National Cooperative Housing Federation of India, Kumari Selja emphasized on the need to sensitize public about the habitat they are living in and said that there is a need to improve greenery in cities like Delhi in view of high pollution. Kumari Selja also said that Cooperatives are the best way to address the housing needs in cities as there is a greater participation of beneficiaries. The Minister also said that basic facilities need to be improved in villages and small towns so that migration towards mega cities are checked and slums do not grow. She also said that the government will finalize a plan on slum renewal by the year end.

Secretary in the Ministry of Urban Employment and Poverty Alleviation, Smt. Chitra Chopra said that tree plantation is a very simple act which can impact the very living of people in a big way. She called upon the organizers to join the hands of the government in greening of Delhi.

Member of Parliament, Shri Sajjan Kumar urged all the office bearers of Group Housing Societies in Delhi to sit together and work out a plan for greening of Dwarka and assured all support from his side.
