The Union Cabinet on Wednesday gave its approval for upgradation of 238 cities / towns to revised classes for the purpose of grant of House Rent Allowance (HRA)/ Compensatory City Allowance (CCA) to the Central Government employees w.e.f. 1.4.2004. The total additional financial implications on account of upgradation of 238 cities for the purpose of HRA/CCA would be about Rs. 144 crore per annum.
