Indian Railways is in the process of formulating a policy for better commercial utilization of its land to earn more revenue and to promote cleanliness within rail premises, said Railway Minister, Shri Lalu Prasad here today.
Accepting a Dividend Cheque of Rs. 51.25 crores for the financial year 2003-2004, presented by Shri A.K. Kohli, Managing Director of Container Corporation of India Ltd. (CONCOR), the Railway Minister said that CONCOR is in the process of diversifying its activities including increasing the number of refrigerated containers for faster movement of perishable items.
Speaking on the occasion, Chairman Railway Board, Shri R.K. Singh stated that CONCOR has already declared a dividend of 125 per cent on the paid up equity share capital during its 16th Annual General Meeting held recently. The volume of traffic handled by the Corporation has increased by more than 15 per cent. Income from operations has gone upto Rs. 1764.4 crores compared to Rs. 1483.4 crores the previous year. CONCOR has attained a net profit of Rs.368 crores as against the previous years figure of Rs. 273 crores, registering a growth of 35 per cent, the Chairman further stated.
The function was also attended by Smt. Vijayalakshmi Viswanathan, Financial Commissioner, Railway Board and other senior officials of the Ministry and the Corporation.
