Tuesday, October 26, 2004

The Union Minister of Railways, Shri Lalu Prasad conferred employment on Kumari Rupali Trilok Thakre of Yoregaon in Wardha District of Maharashtra in Group C category of Central Railway, Mumbai. The Minister gave away employment letter and a cheque of Rs.50,000/- from his Welfare Fund to Kumari Thakre here today.

Kumari Thakre had been pushed by a surging crowd at Hingan Ghat Railway station, while boarding Wardha bound local passenger train after paying obeisance at a temple at Hingan Ghat. While boarding the train, she fell down and her both arms and right leg toe were crushed under the wheels, rendering her physically incapacitated. In the process, she suffered a bigger jolt when her already fixed marriage was cancelled by the prospective groom. She had made a representation to the Railway Minister at Wardha during the campaign for Maharashtra Assembly elections, 2004 last month. Kumari Thakre, accompanied by her father and other family members, was summoned by the Railway Minister here and given employment alongwith the cheque. She was escorted by a senior Railway official.

Employment to Kumari Thakre will enable her to live a life of economic independence and personal dignity.
