The President, Dr.A.P.J.Abdul Kalam has called upon the National Security Guard ( NSG) to take advantage of high performance computers, micro-processors and other modern technologies for increasing its operational efficiency. He was speaking at a function organized on the occasion of the twentieth Raising Day of the force at Manesar, Haryana today. He said that the commercially available operating system could carry bugs detrimental to national security. It is, therefore, necessary to develop our own operating system. The President said that the advent of new technologies has provided a new dimension to policing, surveillance, maintenance of law and order and anti-terrorist operations. The provision of state of art communication systems can lead to better managed solutions for critical operations. This will help plan and execute difficult and complex missions with precision and low casualty rate.

Earlier, the President presented colour to NSG in recognition of its professionalism and outstanding service to the nation. He also inspected the ceremonial parade and took salute of marching contingents on the occasion. This was for the first time in the history of NSG that a ceremonial parade was organized. Since NSG is perpetually in a state of operational preparedness, parade is not a part of its normal curriculum.

Raised in 1985, NSG is a quick reaction force for counter-hijacking and counter-terrorist operations. It draws its personnel from the army and police forces. NSG has a complement of women commandos besides bomb disposal teams and dog units. So far, it has conducted 109 operations.

A number of dignitaries including the Home Minister, Shri Shivraj Patil, Minister of State for Home, Shri Sriprakash Jaiswal and Haryana Chief Minister, Shri Omprakash Chautala were present at today’s function.
