minimum essential amenities at railway stations

The Ministry of Railways has asked the Zonal Railways to complete the minimum essential amenities shortfall at stations by the end of March 2005. The essential amenities comprise availability of water, circulating area, lavatory, passenger area on platforms, cleanliness and lighting.

So far, two Zonal Railways—South Eastern Railway and North Western Railway—have eliminated the shortfalls in minimum essential amenities at all their stations.

Remaining Zonal Railways have confirmed of completing the minimum essential amenities by the target date except Southern Railway, which has indicated completion by December 2005.
