The total number of persons awaiting employment as per the live register in the employment exchanges across the country was 409.20 lakh in July 2004. The figure for June 2004 was 407.83 lakh. The member of candidates who registered themselves in employment exchanges in July 2004 was 6.66 lakh as against 8.95 lakh in June 2004. In both months 0.11 lakh candidates were placed in jobs.
The special employment exchanges for the physically handicapped registered 1292 persons in July 2004. Of them 119 persons were placed in jobs. The number of handicapped applicants on the live registers of these exchanges at the end of July 2004 was 1,12,788. The vocational rehabilitation centres for the handicapped rehabilitated 983 handicapped persons during that month.
