India and United Kingdom have agreed to enhance cooperation in dealing with issues related to climate change by building on the successful joint work that has already been carried out by them. This was indicated at a meeting between Thiru A. Raja, the Minister for Environment and Forests, and Mrs. Margaret Beckett, Secretary of State for Environment, Food & Rural Affairs, Government of United Kingdom, here today.

Recalling the Joint Declaration “Towards a new and dynamic Partnership”, signed by India during the recent visit of the Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh to the UK, Thiru Raja stressed that the issues related to climate change are important and need action according to our differentiated responsibilities and respective capabilities.

The Ministers then discussed specific ways of carrying out a sustained dialogue on climate change and sustainable development concerns. It was agreed that the dialogue would be continued at ministerial, official and expert levels.
