The Labour & Employment Minister Shri Sis Ram Ola has said that the Social Security provisioning starts with job creation and deployment of Human Resources. Inaugurating a two-day workshop on ‘National Employment Service; Perspectives of Development’, here on Thursday, he said that the other approaches of social security are later events. Shri Ola urged the Employment Exchanges to work as job facilitators and capacity builders rather than functioning as mere registration offices. He said, that the new role of the Employment Exchanges has become imperative in the wake of economic reform process. The two-day National Workshop on National Employment Service; Perspectives of Development, has been organised by ILO and National Academy for Training and Research in Social Security (NATRSS). Additional Secretary, Labour Shri Baleshwar Rai and ILO South Asia Sub Regional Office representative Mr. M. Bussi, participated in the inaugural session of the workshop.

As a part of pre-workshop exercise, NATRSS, the primer academy of Social Security Training and Research, conducted field survey to develop issues for deliberation. The issues that came up for discussion are current status of Employment exchanges in India, Employment and training related issues for formal and informal sectors, information gaps and requirement, New models of employment exchanges and the new role of the institutions and recommendations for strengthening Employment Exchanges in India.
