consultancy development centre to be an autonomous institution

Friday, October 15, 2004

The Consultancy Development Centre (CDC) will be promoted by Department of Scientific & Industrial Research (DSIR) as an autonomous institution. The CDC will continue to get financial support under a separate budget within the overall budget of DSIR, based on year to year performance and review.

This was decided by the Union Cabinet which met under the Chairmanship of the Prime Minister, Dr. Manmohan Singh, here on Wednesday.

CDC has been playing a pivotal role in developing and strengthening consultancy capabilities in the country. In 1986, the number of consultants were around 200 and the exports of consultancy were about Rs. 40 crore. Now there are about 5,000 consultancy organizations in the country employing around 1,00,000 professionals with exports of consultancy services worth over Rs. 3,000 crore. CDC has significantly contributed towards this growth. More than 5000 professionals have been benefitted through various programmes of CDC. It is expected that consultancy turnover and exports would double by the year 2007.
