The Coast Guard has apprehended two trawlers one of Taiwanese origin and other of Indonesia near Andaman & Nicobar Islands today. In the wee hours of 28 Oct, the fishing trawler YU MAN HSIANG NO. 20 of Taiwan was apprehended by Coast Guard Ship Vivek. The vessel had on board three Chinese and seven Taiwanese Nationals. It was carrying a catch of 800 kg of frozen and 300 kgs of fresh fish. The trawler which was operating illegally for fishing in the area for the last five days was apprehended in spite of the prevailing inclement weather. The holds of the vessel were also stocked with almost 1 tonne of Tuna and Shark.
Coast Guard captured another vessel today in the same area of Indonesian origin. The Coast Guard Dornier Aircraft spotted the trawler at 1005 hours, 13 kilometers away from Coast Guard Ship Vivek. On investigation, it was confirmed that it was of Indonesian origin named BINTANG JAYA with 16 persons of Indonesian origin on board. The trawler had a catch of approximately 1 tonne of fish. The poacher tried to flee and were to be stopped by firing warning shots.
Both the apprehended poaching vessels are being brought to the Port Blair for handling over to the Police for further necessary action.
