coal india plans 445 million tonnes production by 2011-12

Coal India Limited (CIL), the prime public sector unit of the country has projected a production of 445 million tonnes (MT) of coal at the terminal year of 11th Plan i.e. 2011-12. To achieve this, major share is expected from the new mines. CIL has calculated that during 2011-12 the existing mines will contribute 17.43 MT, completed projects 135.87 MT, on going projects 45.85 MT and new projects 245.85 MT.

CIL has identified 99 projects to be taken up during Xth Plan period including 27 projects with investments of Rs.100 crore and above each. The total investment envisaged for these 27 projects is Rs.17,212 crore as per the present assessment.
