Goalpara District of Assam has been severely affected by flash floods. Two Army flood relief columns were pressed into service on 08 October 2004, in aid to the Civil Administration. The columns are carrying out relentless flood relief operations since then. Apart from providing medical aid and flood relief supplies to a large segment of the affected population, the columns have rescued as many as 200 marooned villagers and recovered 35 bodies from various part of the district. Additional Army column! s are also stand by in the district of Morigaon and West Karbi Anglong.
