Oilseeds are being grown in more area than before. As per the report compiled by the Ministry of Agriculture, oilseeds were grown in 176.01 lakh hectares in this Kharif as compared to 152.89 lha in Kharif 2003 and 138.65 lha in Kharif 2002. The details are given below :

It is expected that owing to good rainfall in September-October this year more area would come under Rabi oilseeds, especially rapeseeds and mustard in northern states.
