The Flash Report for the month of August 2004 issued by the Project Monitoring Division of the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation, states that three major Central Projects i.e. two in Petroleum and one in Power Sector were completed during the month, while 13 have reported additional delays ranging from one to twelve months. Of the 300 projects of Rs.100 crore and above, being monitored by the Ministry on monthly basis, the remaining 284 projects have not shown any additional delays.
However, 62 Railway projects continue to remain on the monitor of the ministry without any information on their latest date of commissioning. For the 45 mega Projects costing Rs.1000 crore and above included in the 300, the Ministry will be issuing a separate Flash Report. The rest of the projects continue with original delay ranging upto 168 months. The Ministry has alerted the concerned Administrative Ministries and Departments to take appropriate remedial measures in order to prevent further slippages in the projects and check cost-escalation.
The three projects completed are; the Nathpa-Jhakri Hydro-Electric Project in Himachal Pradesh and Vizak-Secundarabad LPG Project and Refinery Expansion-cum-Modernisation Project of the Bharat Petroleum Corporation Ltd.
The 13 Projects reporting additional delays include one each in Power, Petroleum, Mining and Fertilizers. These are, Namrup Plant revamp, NALCOs Expansion capacity of smelter, Lakwa-Lakhmani ONGC Project, Transmission system strengthening in Bihar grid and the 9 Road Transport Projects are, Gulabpura-Bhilwara Bypass, Mangalwr-Udaipur, Nellore Bypass, Maharashtra Border-Belgaum, Sira-Tumkur, Belgaum Bypass, Belgaum-Dharwad, Delhi-Gurgaon Section and Hubli-Haveri.
