The Government has approved investment to the tune of Rs.284.78 crore including an Interest During Construction (IDC) component of Rs.8.01 crore for the establishment of transmission system associated with System Strengthening-III of Southern Region [SR) Grid. The decision was taken by Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs [CCEA), which met here on Wednesday.

The transmission system would strengthen the existing transmission networks in Southern region to cater growth in installed capacity and power demand [grown from 24,734 MW in April 2001 to 28,051 in April 2003, i.e. about 15 per cent). It would facilitate formation of “National Grid” in SR through implementing 400 KV D/C Raichur-Gooty transmission line which would serve as a trunk corridor for transfer of bulk power from ER/WR through Parli (WR)-Raichur-Gooty-Hiriyur-Mysore. It would also provide reliable power supply to Bangalore, a major load centre, through 400 KV Neelamangala-somanhally transmission line.
