The Vice President, Shri Bhairon Singh Shekhawat today launched the website on the GLOBE Programme. (www.globeindia.org) developed by Indian Environmental Society under then aegis of Ministry of Environment & Forests, Government of India. Cautioning the people against the excessive exploitation of our natural resources Shri Shekhawat said that they should immediately stop the excessive exploitation of our natural resources otherwise they will have to face the dire consequences. He said that the country is facing the problem of draught due to this. Expressing his concern on the burning problem of cutting of trees, he said that if greenery is lost, the happiness and prosperity of our family, society and the nation at large will be lost.


Shri Shekhawat said that where nature and culture exist together the environment is preserved there and wherever there is imbalance, environment degradation starts. He called upon people to preserve our environment and asked them to ensure that the nature and environment are integral part of our life. This awakening is very necessary for environment conservation. He hoped that India could lead the world in the field of environment conservation.


He hoped that this website will be very useful for awakening the common masses about environment conservation and assured his full help and cooperation in such ventures.


GLOBE means Global Learning and Observations to Benefit the Environment and it is a world-wide network of teachers, students and research scientists working together to learn more about our environment and is a bold adventure for teachers and students. The Ministry of Environment & Forests, Government of India has appointed Indian Environmental Society as an implementing agency for the GLOBE Programme. Till date, more than 1700 schools of India are participating in this programme. The information and knowledge about the GLOBE programme have been put in this website.
