India produced 100.08 lakh MT of urea during the first half (April-September ) of the current financial year against the target of 96.57 lakh MT. The estimated production of urea during September 2004 was 16.48 lakh MT against the target of 16.39 lakh MT. However, production of DAP in the month of September remained at 4.17 lakh MT against the target of 6.02 lakh MT. During September 2004, 16.25 lakh MT urea was dispatched to the States against the target of 16.0 lakh MT. Cumulative availability of urea during the current kharif season by the end of September 2004 has been 104..92 lakh MT and availability was satisfactory in all the States. So far no state has reported any shortage. The sale of urea during Kharif 2004, up to 30.9.2004 was 96.10 lakh MT, which was higher by about 3.2 per cent as compared to the sale of 93.12 lakh MT in the corresponding period of the previous year.
During the month of September 2004, there was no import of urea while 1.25 lakh MT DAP and 3.83 lakh tonnes MT of MOP was imported to the country. The cumulative import of urea, DAP and MOP upto 30.9.04 has been 1.72 lakh MT, 1.84 lakh MT and 13.94 lakh MT respectively.
