three sports events organised for mp’s at sirifort

Ministry of parliamentary affairs today organized a sports programme for parliamentarians, which will be a continuing feature during sessions of Parliament. Speaker of Lok Sabha, Shri Somnath Chatterjee inaugurated three categories of games included this time, namely, badminton, table tennis and shooting (air rifle) at Sirifort Sports Complex. 20 members of parliament/ministers participated in the above games.

The first prize for badminton doubles went to Shri Oscar Fernandes and Shri V. Narayan Swamy and Shri E.V.K.S. Elangovan, Dr. D.R. Shandil were runners up. Shri Suresh Pachouri and Shri B.J. Panda won the first prize in table tennis by defeating Shri R. Chandra Sekar Reddy and Shri Sharad Anantrao Joshi. The first prize in (air rifle) shooting went to Shri Navin Jindal and Shri Jyotiraditya Scindia took second prize. Shri Ghulam Nabi Azad, Shri Shivraj Patil, Shri Rajiv Shukla, Shri Lalit Suri, Shri Jitin Prasada, Shri V. Kishore Chandra S. Deo, Smt. Prabha Thakur, Shri Chandra Pratap Singh, Shir Jual Oram also participated in these events.

As many as 24 games were identified of which only three were organised this time. Although about 25% of the total members of parliament had opted for various events, only selected 28 MP’s were invited to take part in the above three games.
