The Union Cabinet today approved the proposal for extension of tenure of the High Level Committee to inquire into the incident of fire in 9166 Sabarmati Express on February 27, 2002 at Godhra station, for a further period of 3 months beyond December 4, 2004, during which period the Committee shall continue to be authorized to invoke provisions of Section 11 of the Commission of Inquiry Act, 1952, should the need arise.
The extension solicited is to enable the Committee to complete its complex investigations and finalise its report.
