t. r. baalu approves widening of 7.68 km stretch of pondicherry-cuddalore road

The Union Minister of Shipping, Road Transport and Highways, Thiru T. R. Baalu has approved two proposals for development of roads in Pondicherry.

The first proposal relates to widening of NH 45A that passes through Pondicherry and carries a traffic load of about 15,000 Passenger Car Units (PCU) per day. For smoother flow of traffic, the Minister of Shipping, Road Transport and Highways has sanctioned an amount of Rs. 232.63 lakhs to provide paved shoulder of 1.5 metres in km 46/5 to 54/18 (7.68 km) of Pondicherry-Cuddalore road on NH 45 A in Pondicherry.

Under the second proposal, widening of existing two-lane East Coast Road to four-lane in km 139/00 to km 141/24 has been approved. The work would cost Rs. 257 lakhs and would be taken up under Central Road Fund works for Pondicherry for the year 2004-05.
