Minister for Youth Affairs and Sports, Shri Sunil Dutt today launched ‘Sportal’ a website to give sports related information through a single window. It provides details of sports legends with their life sketches, history of sports events with photographs, detail of sports awardees, history of sports federations and their contact nos. The portal, designed by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports with the help of NIC, also provides detail of sports disciplines, career and courses offered by various institutions in the country, Government schemes for promotion of sports and infrastructure available in the country. It also contains sports related news.
Launching the website, Shri Sunil Dutt said that the portal would help youth in accessing the facilities and promote sports in the country. He also asked the officials present on the occasion to include discussion forum in the portal to interact common people and sports lovers.
Responding queries regarding preparation of Commonwealth Games the Minister clarified that there were no differences with the Indian Olympic associations. He stressed that required money would be made available for the games. On the occasion, Secretary, Youth Affairs and Sports, Ms. Meenaxi Anand Chowdhury apprised of various initiatives being taken by the Ministry to improve status of sports in the country.
