Subsequently, the issue of assistance to this Project under the Accelerated Irrigation Benefits Programmes (AIBP) Scheme can be considered.

The North Koel Project costing Rs. 1118 Crore envisages construction of a Dam across North Koel river at Kutku (in Jharkhand), a tributary of Sone to irrigate 1.047 lakh hactare land in districts of Palamu in Jharkhand and Aurangabad and Gaya in Bihar.

The issue of early clearance of the Indrapuri Reservoir Scheme was also discussed in the meeting and it was decided that the Chairman Water Commission would convene and inter-state meeting in the first week of December to expedite the work on it.

The Indrapuri Reservoir Scheme envisages construction of 3.9 Km long and 45-metre high earth dam across the river Sone connecting Kadhwan and Matiawan villages on the right and left banks in Palamu (Jharkhand) & Rohtas (Bihar) districts respectively. The Indrapuri Reservoir is needed to stabilize the already created potential in the old Sone command as well as to bring more areas under irrigation. Apart from the irrigation benefits, power generation of 450 MW will be available at the Indrapuri Dam site.

Shri Yadav also said that a separate meeting of Basin States like Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Bihar and Jharkhand would be called in early December this year for reviewing the progress of other projects.
