The second phase expansion of the aluminium major National Aluminium Company Limited (NALCO) will be carried out in one go instead of in stages. Accordingly, a total project schedule of fifty months has been envisaged. The total cost of July, 2003 price level was estimated at Rs.4091.51 crore. The capacity of the bauxite mining will go up from 4.8 million tonnes per year (tpy) to 6.3 million tpy at a cost of Rs.72.27 crore. The company will spend Rs.1258.02 crore to expand the alumina refinery capacity from 1.575 million tpy 2.1 million tpy. Aluminium smelter capacity will increase from 3,45,000 tpy to 4,60,000 tpy at a cost of Rs.1609.41 crore. NALCO will spend Rs.1151.80 crore in the second phase expansion of its captive power plant and the capacity will go up from 8 x 120 to 10 x 120 mw.
