The Chairman, Railway Board, Shri R.K. Singh, has called for redressal of public grievances on Railways within a time-frame as laid down by the Government. Addressing a day-long All India Conference of Additional General Managers of Zonal Railways, Kolkata Metro and Konkan Railway here today, Shri Singh said that a time limit of ninety days for redressal of public grievances must be observed. He further said that a maximum limit of 120 days in the case of information obtaining from the field may be observed. Enumerating the time frame for various types of grievances, the Chairman said for pension, the time frame is ninety days, for references from Department of Personnel and Public Grievances, forty-two days, for references from Members of Parliament and Members of Legislative Assemblies and Prime Minister’s Office, thirty days. He stressed the need for adhering to the time frame and quality of disposal.

The Chairman spoke about five major areas of complaints relating to booking, punctuality, reservation, improper behaviour of Railway staff and functioning of enquiry offices and refund of tickets, and asked the Additional General Managers to ensure that these areas functioned effectively and cause of complaint minimized. He also directed the Zonal Railways to minimize room for public complaints by improving rail services and making the frontline staff responsive.

Financial Commissioner, Member Engineering, Member Traffic and Member Electrical also addressed the Conference.

The Conference of Additional General Managers is discussing ways and means for expediting redressal of public grievances and minimizing them.
