The Home Minister, Shri Shivraj Patil administered here today the National Integration Pledge to the officers and staff of the Ministry of Home Affairs. Employees of the Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances & Pensions and of the Department of Justice also took part in the pledge taking ceremony. The Quami Ekta Week is observed every year from 19th to 25th November to foster the spirit of patriotism, communal harmony and national integration.

The National Foundation for Communal Harmony organizes the Communal Harmony Week to coincide with the Quami Ekta Week. During the Week, the Foundation also raises funds to support its various activities. Donations to the Foundation are exempt from payment of income tax under Section 80 G of the Income Tax Act, 1961. The Communal Harmony Week will culminate into the observance of the Flag Day on the 25th of this month. The National Foundation of Communal Harmony has been set up by the Government of India for promoting physiological and psychological rehabilitation of child victims of communal, caste, ethnic and terrorist violence and extending financial assistance for promotion of communal harmony and national integration in various parts of the country.
