New industrial training institutes are to be set up in Jammu & Kashmir and the North-Eastern States at an outlay of Rs.130.60 crore. The proposal from the Ministry of Labour now awaits approval from the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs. When effective, the training capacity in Jammu & Kashmir would expand from 4153 seats to 5959. In respect of the North-Eastern States of Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Tripura and Sikkim it would be more than double. The present training capacity of these States taken together is 7224. Once the proposal materialises, the number would go up to 16144.
