Nehru Yuva Kendra Sangathan, an autonomous organization under the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports and India’s largest non-political grassroots level organization for rural youth will celebrate the Birth Anniversary of Jawaharlal Nehru on November 14, 2004 with great zest. The occasion will provide an opportunity for the children, adolescents and youth to come together and celebrate Nehru’s birth anniversary and know more about his vision of a scientific, technologically advanced and modern India. Around 5000 marginalized children including handicapped and orphans will participate in the celebrations at New Delhi. The celebrations have been organized by the Nehru Yuva Kendra Sangathan in collaboration with the National Service Scheme and Sports Authority of India.

A lot of exciting events are planned for the children and youth, which include:


A PowerPoint Presentation Competition by senior school students on the topic - the Vision of Jawaharlal Nehru on Modern India.


On-the-Spot Painting Competition by school students on topics- India- A Land of Peace/Brotherhood & Harmony and India of My Dream.


Run for My Dream-India. More than 1000 youth will participate in the run from National Stadium to India Gate, which is being organized by the Sports Authority of India.


Cultural Programme; Martial Arts demonstration; Exhibition of Jawaharlal Nehru and quiz time.

Jawaharlal Nehru’s birth Anniversary will also be celebrated in all the 500 districts where Nehru Yuva Kendra Sangathan has its presence. Youth Clubs under the district Nehru Yuva Kendras will organize essay competitions; debates and painting competitions will be organized for the rural children. Prominent local leaders and freedom fighters will be invited to speak and inspire the youth in the villages.

The Sports Authority of India is also organizing a run not only at the national level but also throughout the country at all its Regional and Sub Centres, North Eastern Region and at the Andaman Nicobar Centre to celebrate the birth anniversary of Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru.

Prominent leaders of the country like Shri Arjun Singh, Minister for Human Resource Development, Smt Sheila Dikshit, Chief Minister of Delhi and Shri Oscar Fernandes, Minister of State for Statistics and Programme Implementation and Shri Sunil Dutt, Minister for Youth Affairs and Sports will participate in the celebrations.
