The Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation has been asked by the Government to synergise and coordinate with other ministries and departments for the speedy implementation of the National Common Minimum Programme (NCMP). The Ministry will follow up all the directives from the Government from time to time in this regard. According to the Ministry there are more than 110 actionable, schematic, legislative and investment subjects to be covered under the NCMP.
Since, statistics plays an important role in the implementation of developmental programmes and social planning, the ministry has embarked upon a massive exercise of conducting an economic census of the country. The output of the census will be highly useful in social, industrial and economic planning at the national, state and district levels. The present momentum of developmental process of social statistics will also be further accelerated in a bid to help achieve the objectives of the NCMP.
The other measures taken by the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation to give a helping hand for achieving the social objectives envisaged in the Programme includes analytical and methodological studies for the preparation of a Social Development Index. To meet the data gaps in various areas, it has also been encouraging research studies on a number of social sector projects. The Ministry is in close touch with various central departments and State Governments also, for bridging the data gaps.
