The Ministry of Food Processing Industries is currently operating a Plan scheme for technology upgradation and modernising the processed food sector. The scheme covers fruits and vegetables, milk products, meat, poultry, fisheries, oilseeds and horticultural produce for value addition and prolonging their shelf life.
The scheme provides for grant of financial assistance @ 25% of the project cost in general areas and 33.33% in difficult areas subject to a maximum of Rs.50 lakh and Rs.75 lakh respectively. The scheme is project-specific. Hence it does not take into account, area, state or community for grant. The Panchayati Raj institutions can avail the benefits of this scheme through their cooperative efforts.
